BEING WITH SERVICES

Why see a psychiatrist?

Are you or a loved one struggling with sadness or anxiety that will not budge? Or feeling distressed without knowing why? Wondering why you just cannot sit still or concentrate like other people?

Are you finding it hard to progress in life the way that you would like to?
Or finding that you are unable to function like you used to?

Seeing a psychiatrist could help.

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialise in mental health.

At Being With we focus on assessing, diagnosing, and understanding why people present with symptoms of distress at particular points in their lives. We also focus on creating shifts in patterns that could be keeping people stuck. This may include medication.

Rachel will look at your emotional, physical, social, and spiritual and how these affect one another. If you or your child needs specific therapy or further assessment, she can recommend other specialists who can help. Treatment plans will be developed in partnership with you, and if you desire, with your loved ones, and other health professionals.

If this sounds like something you would like, please contact your GP to make a referral.

What to expect

Youth (under 18)

We begin youth assessments by first talking with parents in a 60-minute session to comprehensively understand your child’s background and your current concerns.

Our initial parents’ session is followed by another 60-minute session with you and your child together, followed by speaking with your child one on one (depending on their age and comfort level).

We then discuss the young person’s difficulties and strengths and develop an initial treatment plan together.

Adults

Our assessment process for adults takes two to four hours and is usually undertaken over more than one appointment. Initial appointments are 90 minutes, and subsequent appointments are 30-60 minutes.

This includes a broad discussion of your mental and physical health, family of origin, past and current relationships, and your values. After the assessment process, we work towards a treatment plan. During follow-up appointments, we collaboratively review your progress, adjusting your treatment plan as required.

Commonly discussed treatment options include medication, therapy and lifestyle modifications.
Fees

Our consultation fee for all sessions, youth and adults, is $500 per hour (GST inclusive).

Initially we usually allocate:
Adults: 90 minute appointment
Youth: Two 60 minute appointments

Please note that a full psychiatric assessment and treatment plan can take up to three to four hours, and usually involves more than one appointment.

You can find a full breakdown of our fees in our Practice Information document.
